Case Study: Buck Trucking & Transportation Hands Off After-Hours Dispatch to Haulmate

Buck Trucking & Transportation LLC, a Katy, Texas-based brokerage specializing in expedited, team-driven over-the-road freight across the lower forty-eight states, has turned to Haulmate Inc. to staff its dispatch desk during the hours nobody else wants to work.

Pain Point

Buck runs a team-driver model built for speed, putting two drivers in the cab to keep freight moving around the clock. That business model created a staffing problem for Thomas Thompson, Buck's head of dispatch and administration, when the company launched in October 2025: someone had to watch the freight even when the sun isn't up and when weekends roll in.

Thomas’s in-house dispatch team, now 19 strong, handles days without difficulty. Nights and weekends are another matter. Finding U.S.-based dispatchers willing to work a 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift and on weekends, he said, is a persistently hard sell, especially at the pay rate a typical dispatcher commands. Left unaddressed, that gap threatened to slow a brokerage that had every intention of scaling fast out of the gate.

"The biggest pain point when we were starting up was staffing," Thomas says, "and they were ready to go right away, so we didn't have to delay our own growth." Without that fix, he estimates the hiring lag alone would have taken a couple of months to close and cost the young company real money at a moment when speed mattered most.

Fortunately, Thomas wasn't starting from zero on the solution. A previous employer had already worked with Haulmate, so when Buck opened its doors, he went straight to founder Govind Bhatti to assemble an outsourced night team rather than build one from scratch. “Govind's approach to logistics aligns very closely with mine: It’s all-hands on deck, all the time, to make sure you always know what's going on with the shipments you're responsible for,” says Thomas.

Pain Relief

Govind’s fix was speed itself. Thomas said Haulmate typically turns around new dispatcher requests in a matter of days, a week at most, once the operation's requirements are understood. Replacing a staffer, he added, moves just as fast. That pace let Buck fill its after-hours desk immediately rather than absorb the growth-killing delay Thomas had feared.

The Haulmate team functions as an extension of Buck's own staff, not a bolted-on vendor. Each remote dispatcher carries a Buck-branded email address, sits within the company's internal communications, and deals directly with customers and carriers on active loads. A Buck-employed after-hours manager oversees the arrangement domestically, so escalations stay in-house even as the night desk runs on Haulmate's clock.

Thomas credits Govind’s own trucking background for this fit. Conversations with Govind, he says, carried none of the awkward pauses that come from an outsourcing partner that doesn't know the freight business. That fluency, paired with the Haulmate team's U.S.-focused training, lets Buck treat its night and weekend coverage as fully staffed rather than a workaround. “I would just say they're fantastic," Thomas says. "I haven't had any issues with them. Govind really understands all aspects of freight, and he trains the Haulmate team well. They're part of our team and take pride in servicing our customers as we do."

Haulmate's India-based team of fluent English-speaking and fully trained dispatchers and back-office staff verifies appointments and pickup numbers in advance, uses checklists for seals, temperatures, and case counts, and escalates discrepancies before they lead to lost days or claims. Haulmate's goal is straightforward: protect drivers' time, reduce avoidable mistakes, and give logistics leaders the confidence that their operations are being managed with the utmost attention to detail. If you're running a fleet or logistics operation and want a calmer, more predictable back office that has your drivers' backs, Haulmate is here to help.
